Lori McAlister
Lori began her life as a mover at the age of five when she started gymnastics and dance classes. That training continued as she made the NCA All-American Danz Team and went on to study modern dance at Emerson College where she received her BFA in Dance. It was here in one of her college dance courses where yoga entered Lori's life. Upon graduating, she moved to New York City and danced professionally for five years for various choreographers including a two year national tour with L'Oreal Professionnel as a dancing hair model. During this time she also enjoyed one year working for CircusMinimus as a Circus Tumbling teacher to young children in both NYC public and private schools. Yet one event after another brought Lori back to the doors of yoga studios where she found her personal practice.
Lori's background in modern dance and gymnastics gave way to lead her down the path of teaching yoga. She incorporates her working knowledge of the human body with the discipline of Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya's philosophy of the eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga. This method is based on the individual's changing needs to achieve maximum therapeutic value. With an emphasis on the spine and the breath, each session works with the theme of form over range using a marriage of the mind, body, and spirit.
Yoga has taught Lori that one can open the heart, calm the mind, strengthen the body, and discover the true nature of the Self. By quieting mental chatter, letting compassion supercede judgment, and focusing the body in asana practice, one can cultivate awareness and achieve greatness.
Lori completed the 200 hour teacher certification at New York Yoga in 2004.
